When a provider sends you to a Malaysian university for an MBA, the first question is not whether the course looks good on a page. It is whether the degree is what it claims to be, who awards it, and what you will actually be asked to do over the course of it. Lincoln University College Malaysia is the awarding body for the MBA we list, and the programme is delivered entirely online through its Open and Distance Learning portal.
Who stands behind Lincoln University College Malaysia's MBA
The degree is issued by Lincoln University College, not by Smart College. We are the provider that introduces you to the programme and helps with the application. The awarding body sets the curriculum, the assessment and the final award, and it publishes its own requirements on its website. When you compare options, keep that distinction in mind, because the authority for the qualification sits with the university.
What the accreditation references show
Our programme page gives the MQA reference for the MBA as MQA/FA 0797. The Malaysian Qualifications Agency is the body that accredits programmes in Malaysia, and the reference lets you find the programme in the agency's register. Do that check yourself rather than relying on our summary. Accreditation in Malaysia describes the programme as delivered in Malaysia; it does not decide how an employer or authority in the UAE will treat the certificate, which is a separate question covered at the end of this article.
What the MBA covers, subject by subject
Unlike some listings, our page gives the subject list as published by the awarding body. The core subjects are business accounting and finance, business economics, human resource management, organisational behaviour, international business, entrepreneurship and management, business ethics and governance, operations management, marketing management and strategic management. Each is worth three credits. The programme then adds a project paper worth six credits and a research methodology module worth four. Added together, the listed subjects total 40 credits.
- The early subjects are broad and suit people moving from a technical role into management.
- The project paper carries the most weight among the individual items, so plan time for it early in the schedule.
- Research methodology is worth four credits and prepares you for the project, which means it is not optional in practice.
Entry routes in Malaysian terms
The standard academic route asks for a bachelor's degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or an equivalent, as accepted by the university's senate. A candidate with a lower CGPA can be considered if they have at least five years of relevant work experience. Other qualifications recognised by the Malaysian government also qualify. Non-Malaysian applicants should check the Malaysian Qualifications Agency's list of overseas qualifications and its equivalency with the Malaysian system. There is also an executive route based on work experience, known as APEL, for mature practitioners.
A CGPA is a Malaysian and many Asian grading measure. If your transcript uses a British classification or a percentage scale, the university will convert it, so ask for that conversion in writing rather than guessing at it yourself.
Malaysian national courses and industrial training: what differs
Lincoln's bachelor's degrees include Malaysian national courses. The psychology bachelor's page, for example, lists Philosophy and Current Issues, Ethics and Civilisation, and the Integrity and Anti-Corruption course, along with a service-learning module and industrial exposure worth nine credits. The MBA page does not show these items. Do not assume the MBA has the same national courses or the same industrial placement unless the university confirms it.
Language requirements
International applicants are expected to meet an English standard of TOEFL 500 or IELTS 6.0, or an equivalent qualification. If an applicant falls short, the university must offer an English course so that the student can reach the level the programme needs. That is useful, but it adds time and cost, so raise it early if your English test results are older or below the threshold.
Questions to ask before you enrol
- Which award title will appear on your certificate, and does it match the MQA register?
- How are the project paper and research methodology assessed, and what is the submission schedule?
- Whether industrial training or a placement is included, and if so, how it is arranged for a student living in the UAE.
- How the English course is charged and timed, if your language results fall short.
Where the MBA leads, and what it does not settle
An MBA from a Malaysian university can strengthen a CV, a promotion case or a move into general management. It does not automatically give you a standing in the UAE. Recognition is decided by the relevant authorities on each applicant's case after graduation, and no provider can decide it for you. Read our page on degree recognition in the UAE before you plan a career move around the certificate. You can also review the full programme summary on our MBA programme page.
